"Hi - It's Don here. Andy Scott and myself checked in for our flight to Dubai (and then on to Brisbane). Andy had to pay £1,500:00 excess baggage 'cause of his guitar equipment!
My bag was perfectly on weight, thanks to my wife Hanne - who spent ages moving things around between my two suitcases I was allowed.
We'll be boarding our first flight of the trip to Dubai anytime now...... I will keep you all posted."

"Yesterday, Andy and myself had a wonderful flight from Dubai to Brisbane - about 14 hrs. At least I could stretch my legs in the Business Class bar area. What a fantastic Airline Emirates is........
Our Chauffeur met us when we eventually got through baggage collection at the airport....... Andy's guitars took so long in coming through. It was a bit worrying! Anyway, once we collected them we had an hour's drive to Twin Towns Resorts.
I've been given a fantastic suite overlooking the beach and the clear blue sea..... What a fantastic hotel complex.
I'm not one bit tired, so I'm just relaxing with gallons of tea.
We are here for about 6 days - rehearsing and playing. It's not SO hot outside BUT I'm not going out in it unless I wear my diver's suit like Del Boy did (in one 'Only Fools And Horses' episode). The Wi Fi is not working in my room, so I'm downstairs in the bar / reception drinking tea and being tempted by the wonderful cakes on display..... And using my computer in the only place possible to get Wi Fi coverage.
Andy has gone to bed. It's 10:30 am here (about 3:00 in the UK)"........

I'm in the bar / reception of my hotel here in Twin Towns - the time here is 20:30. 100 metres away where my room is it's 19:30!!!!
Different States apparently????
WELL, I've had a few hours sleep. Not doing anything tonight. I'm still a little 'spaced' with jet lag"..........

Monday 30th January 2017
I've just spent the, last 3 or 4 hours with Andy - drinking tea (me) and beers (Andy).
We found a supermarket across from the hotel. We went and bought sandwiches, crisps, chocolate etc. that we can have in our rooms. We then went and got an adaptor so we can use wifi in our rooms.
We had a walk looking for a music shop..... No luck, came back to our hotel. Jez, Dionne and Louise (our other band members) had arrived from the UK. They went for a walk round. I spoke to Hanne on Facebook before we all met up downstairs to eat in the hotel......
Also, I had an e-mail from my school friend Alan living who lives in Perth. We are there soon. I haven't seen him since Slade toured here in Australia in 1973 - and I met up with him then!

Gig at Empire Theatre, Toowoomba
We left Tweed Heads and I drove for about 90 minutes with Suzis 'brass section' to Brisbane.
We arrived the same time as the others and checked in our hotel.

Spent most of the afternoon at the venue - the Empire Theatre, Toowoomba.....
I must say it's such a fantastic crew we have. My drums were perfectly set up and my monitors spot on....
Suzi and Andy came down for us to do our sound check.
The Empire Theatre is a beautiful old theatre which holds about 5,000 people (all sold out).

Andy and myself 'chilled' out at the gig before making our way back to the hotel.

Meeting Don in Canberra - by Ken Grimson
Email to Don's website:
My wife Robyn and I got to the Canberra Theatre about 20 minutes before the gig, having driven from Wagga after work.
We had good seats, although Don's face was hidden a bit by a cymbal.
It was a real buzz to see him play live after 44 years of following Slade.
At the end of the show Robyn, stayed at a stage door while I went around to the other side of the theatre where I saw some people milling around, a sem-trailer obviously there to carry the gear away and another bloke who I guessed was part of the team somehow.
I asked him if Don was still at the venue, and he said no, he had left earlier.
He saw I was carrying Don's book and we started talking about it, and Slade.
Eventually, I asked if he would tell me where Don was staying.
He could tell I wasn't a crazy stalker, and told me the hotel and what time Don was leaving the next day.
It happened to be the same street Robyn and I were staying, so we worked out how long it would take to walk there the next day, and after a late tea we got to bed about 12.30am.
We got up at 5.30am and walked around to Don's hotel, arriving about 6.10am.
As we arrived, I saw Don in the lobby, so I walked up and introduced myself after, with Robyn just behind me.
He talked to us for about 20 minutes, even thanking us for getting up early!!
Don autographed his book for me.
We talked about lots of things Slade and I told him what the band had meant to me over the years.
He responded so graciously and warmly, and even gave Rob a kiss.
That is the measure of the man.
He was everything everyone has said about him - warm, friendly, generous with his time, down to earth.
Sometimes our 'heroes' have clay feet and often disappoint in real life.
Not Don Powell.
So, thanks Don's website for helping me meet Don.
This will be something that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Just as listening to Slade lifted me up when I was younger (and still does), remembering my 20 minutes with Don Powell will always put a smile on my face.

Gig at Anitas Theatre, Thirroul, Woolongong
I got up, 04:00 when my alarm went off and my wake-up call came through.
Cleaned up and finished packing, went downstairs to meet everyone to travel to Sydney to record a TV show on,Channel 10.
We have a three hour drive to get there!
LATER
Just done a fantastic live TV show here in Sydney.....
We actually played live "If Only" and "Just Like A Woman" from our QSP CD.
We had a great response from the live audience.
I believe it's been shown on Australia's Channel10 on Monday. Before we left the TV studio a guy came to get an autograph on my biography....
We are now on our way to Woolongong for tonight's concert.
LATER
On our way to Woolongong we drove near Botany Bay - where Captain Cook landed, very beautiful....
Just Andy and myself did our soundcheck and stayed at the gig.....
We had a FANTASTIC show to about 2,000 people.
Andy and myself were then driven to Sydney about two hours away to check into our hotel.
I was in bed by 23:30.

Email to Don's website:
I wasn't sure we were going to this gig but we bit the bullet & booked our Tix (self & wife)
We were first in line, so got our usual spot, right next to the mixing desk; best sound...
I'd tried many ways to arrange a possible meet up with Don; websites, Facebook messages & emails to various people associated with the tour; including Falcon, who was doing stage management etc for the tour; have known him for a while, but not that well; anyway, I received an encouraging email from Di, to be side of stage after QSP & meet Don through Arthur Carruthers; I wasn't sure if this was confirmed so I tried another angle; I spotted a guy with a tour pass walking near us, so politely asked if there was any chance of seeing Don; he said he'd check with Don; I told him I wouldn't move from our spot... so half an hour later, I saw Don & the crew guy looking up our way from backstage; I jokingly waved, they waved back??? I went a bit dizzy, & told my wife 'I think Don's heading up here..' I couldn't help but wander through the crowd & meet him halfway; we got closer & I stuck out my hand for a shake, but I grabbed Don in a bear-hug, he laughed & hugged me back; a bit of chatting then I asked if we could go to our spot; to get photos, a book signed etc; he obliged so off we went, met my wife & friends; talked & talked; I was like a school kid
I can't remember much of the conversation, but we ranged from conditions in Australia, Russian tours & Jim Lea's health; & lots of my 45 year history of following Slade
We spent maybe 20 minutes chatting, but respecting that Don was going on soon, we said goodbye
So QSP take the stage; & somehow I got through to the front of stage (the expensive seats) & I swear Don was nodding & smiling at me; okay, he was
After the QSP set, I 'acquired' a AAA pass & went backstage; Don appeared & we continued our chat; I think he was chuffed there was a Slade fan at the gig.. anyway, more hugs & handshakes; then a final goodbye (Suzi appeared too, so I grabbed a photo with her)
Today was so special; I'd never seen Slade or any of the band anywhere else; they were part of my teens & still give me much musical pleasure today; especially the 69-76 era:
I appreciate the opportunity to catch up & thank Don for his time & the crew for what they did
Thank you...

Day off in Sydney
Morning everyone.
Had a relaxing day off yesterday - tried to buy DVD's..... NO LUCK.
Relaxed in my room after walking around Sydney for hours.
This morning I've packed my ready suitcases to move onto Mackay for two days.
Later we watched our first TV appearance was on Chanel 10 - singing 'Just Like A Woman'
Arthur, our tour manager, told me his wife saw Slade at the Sundown, Mile End, London in the early '70's (1972).
We all flew from Sydney to Mackay via Brisbane.
Checked into our hotel.
Rainer, Suzi, Andy and myself all went out to eat. Then, Andy, Rainer and myself had a drink with, the road crew before I came to my room.
I was in bed by 22:15.

Message from Joe Matera
Don received a message from Australian rock guitarist, instrumental artist and rock journalist Joe Matera - about the QSP album. (Joe used to be lead guitarist in Australian rock band Geisha between 2007-2010).
He said:
"Hi Don,
How are you? Just caught the live performance on Channel 10 earlier of
Just Like A Woman, absolutely brilliant!
Been listening the CD non-stop...so thought you might like to see a
photo of it taking pride of place in my studio.
All the best with the rest of the Oz shows.
Cheers,
Joe"

I was up when my alarm call came through 07:00.
Cleaned up and packe to check out and drive to Townsville....
We had a great 4hr drive in a luxury coach, beautiful scenery.
When we checked in our hotel in Townsville, I was completely taken by surprise - there was my friend Malcolm Skellington - pretending to be a hotel porter!.... He'd been to New Zealand about a job and stayed over in Oz to catch us,
He was already checked in the, same hotel.
He came to the gig with, me so I could check my drums. We then stayed there,
GOOD SHOW to about 1,500 people. Malcolm made his own way back to the hotel.
I came back with, Andy and Rainer. Saw Malcolm before I came to bed at 22:00.
